Mrs. Ruth's Jam Ice Cubes

The easiest upgrade your drinks will ever get. Stir Mrs. Ruth's jam into water or citrus juice, pour into an ice cube tray, and freeze. Drop them into lemonade, sparkling water, iced tea, or a cocktail and watch the color bloom as they melt. They're beautiful, they're functional, and they make a plain glass of water feel like something special. Tuck a fresh herb sprig or edible flower into each cube and they're genuinely stunning.

Prep Time: 5 minutes | Freeze Time: 4+ hours | Total Time: 4 hours 5 minutes | Yield: 1 standard ice cube tray (about 16 cubes)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Mrs. Ruth's Simply Strawberry Jam (or any Mrs. Ruth's variety — see swaps below)
  • 1 cup water, lemonade, or fresh citrus juice (lemon, lime, or orange)
  • Optional: fresh herb sprigs (mint, thyme, basil), edible flowers, or small fruit pieces

Directions

  1. In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the jam and liquid until fully dissolved and smooth. Warm the liquid slightly if the jam is thick — it blends more easily.
  2. If using optional add-ins, place a small herb sprig, edible flower, or piece of fruit into each compartment of the ice cube tray.
  3. Pour the jam mixture over the add-ins, filling each compartment to just below the top.
  4. Freeze for at least 4 hours, or until completely solid.
  5. Pop cubes out and use immediately, or transfer to a zip-top bag and store in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.

Tips & Notes

  • Warm the liquid slightly: If your jam is thick or has fruit pieces, warming the water or juice to room temperature (not hot) helps it blend smoothly without cooking the jam.
  • Strain for clarity: For crystal-clear cubes, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve before pouring. Leave it unstrained for a more rustic, textured look.
  • Match the liquid to the jam: Strawberry jam + lemonade, peach jam + orange juice, blackberry jam + lime juice — the citrus amplifies the fruit flavor beautifully.
  • Use in cocktails: Jam ice cubes are exceptional in gin and tonics, prosecco, bourbon lemonade, or a simple vodka soda. They sweeten and flavor the drink as they melt.
  • Gifting idea: Freeze a batch, bag them up, and include a Mrs. Ruth's jam jar — an easy and impressive hostess gift.
